Martha Stewart sentenced to 5m Prison
The Martha Stewart saga has more-or-less come to an end with the Diva sent to jail for obstructing a federal investigation. Stewart's sentencing will be viewed by some as her being a fall-girl for the Corporate Governance scandals of the last few years - such as Enron and Worldcom. This is simply not the case. Stewart got greedy, got caught receiving an insider-trading tip and now has paid the price. She didn't mislead investors or falsify accounting records. What I think makes this all that more amusing is that Stewart was a Trader prior to her rise as the "Master Decorator". Her "you can't touch me" attitude at times probably didn't help her defence. What happens to America's living rooms now that the Stewart brand is tarnished? Is it back to shag rugs and plastic chairs?
