Colin Powell resigns

In an unsurprising move today, Colin Powell is set to resign as the US Secretary of State. Although we'll probably have to wait for his memoirs, it seemed pretty apparent that Powell was unpopular with the Bush team and that his usefulness was pretty much expended after his infamous speech to the UN. John Ashcroft has also resigned... although claiming his objectives were achieved in securing the nation, it is my opinion that his actions in office have failed to secure the nation and have in fact undermined the core values of American democracy. Let us not forget the suppression of civil rights that is Ashcroft's Patriot Act.
