It certainly doesn't feel like it. Or at least I'm certainly having a hard time getting back in gear!
Friday's Liverpool match didn't turn out to be the magnificent sporting event I had hoped for - the team struggled throughout the match trying to find their feet and in the end Porto got the goal they had been threatening to get for most of the match. All the same, it was great to see the team playing in Toronto and I think everyone involved in the match greatly enjoyed the experience. Perhaps I have even interested
Matthew and K in following the team.
US forces are on heightened alert today as the appears to be an al-Qaeda threat originating from (current ally?) Pakistan. Financial buildings are targeted in
documents dating back to 2000. Tom Ridge has stated that he hopes that financial markets will rise to show terrorists that their threat is not felt - funny Tom, I thought the markets rose and fell with the economy and earnings.
Link. I have two fears stemming for alarms of these sort - 1. Are they credible alarms or timed political tools? 2. Will failure to demonstrate a credible and immediate threat undermine the reporting process and endanger the initiative? As an aside, what are citizens to do in the event of higher security alert - it seems to me that the apart from being more anxious and less trusting of one's neighbours, we're only expected to be good little working consumers.
I watched two movies over the weekend. The first was "Outfoxed" the documentary about how Fox News constructs the headlines, sets the scope of American political discussion, is the partisan mouthpiece of the Republican party, manipulates and deceives the public and undermines the integrity of Western journalism. It's interesting stuff! Not set for release in the theatres as far as I'm aware, you can buy it online at
Outfoxed.Org. O'Reilly is the DEVIL!
I also saw "I, Robot" which was predictable but very entertaining. Recommended for rental certainly provided you're not looking to become too philosophical.
Had a really nice hike on the weekend in the Rouge River Valley. I could get used to this. Thanks K.
