Yes, I'm Serious - The Leafs must Trade No.24

Trade McCabe? It's about time!

March 3, 2006 - As contract talks are stalled for Maple Leafs Defenceman Bryan McCabe, the Toronto Star suggests that the pending free agent could be traded before the March 9 deadline. My option - Hooray!

The paper suggests that, for a cheaper rate, the Leafs might want to replace McCabe with potential free agents like Buffalo's Jay McKee or Los Angeles' Mattias Norstrom. With McCabe calling free agency 'a once in a lifetime opportunity', it might be time for the Leafs to look at trade options.

Here's my long-standing beef - On May 4 2004, the TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS were eliminated from the Stanley Cups playoffs by the Philadelphia Flyers in overtime of Game 6.

It's true that almost no professional hockey commentator picked the LEAFs to win the series, but it certainly wasn't a blowout - the LEAFS were 100% competitive.

WELL SOME LEAFS WERE.

The lacklustre play of NIK ANTROPOV notwithstanding (how on Earth did he get so much ice time?), BRYAN McCABE was terrible. I mean real bad. He's a horribly inconsistent player, the LEAFS' leading scoring defender but also the frequent victim of terrible on-ice brain farts that lead him to make errors of the sort one would expect from a 6 year-old NOVICE.

Some people probably remain unconvinced. Then let us remember Game 5 of the Philly series. He was a -5. This was a high pressure game when it was time to suck it up. He dropped the ball. Again. 'Nuff said.

I for one believe that it's time for McCabe to go. A blue-line player with an "A" on his sweater should be described "as a rock", not someone who throws rocks. It's time for him to go. I am tried of seeing this guy cough up the puck at the most inopportune moments or watch the puck go past him on the power play.

ORDER YOUR "TRADE McCABE" T-SHIRT Now!

I have offering two options for T-Shirt logos:

1. "No 24 after 04 / Trade McCABE" and

2. Front "He's the most Underrated Defender in the League", Back:"Trade McCabe"

Please send your order preference to No 24 after 04 and I'll see what we can do for volume ordering and design. I'm not looking to make any cash on this - I just want to drink more Guinness (you see I drink Guinness while I watch LEAFS games)

Still pissed off -
Ben Harrison
